Crantock Beach
- distance 600yards Beautiful Crantock Beach is ideal for surfers, bathers, walkers
or just sunbathers. The warm water of the Gannel at low tide is popular with children.
Swimming in the Gannel at any other time however can be very dangerous due to
strong currents; therefore parents and adult bathers must beware. Lifeguards,
who do offer advice as to where on the beach it is safe to enter the water, patrol
the beach in the summer months. There is a beach cafe and ice creams hut but again
open only during the season. During this time of year you can also cross the Gannel
at Fern Pit, either over the footbridge at low tide or by ferry. This service
does not continue into the evening.
Other beaches to visit are; Porth Joke (Polly Joke to the locals) up at West Pentire.
It is a long walk down, and there are no facilities once you get there, but it
is worth the effort! Fistral Beach in Newquay of course most famous for surfing,
is a beach for all age groups. Porth Beach on the outskirts of Newquay heading
out in the Padstow direction, with parking on the beach is often a favourite with
families. Page
